Evaluating the Association of Keratocunus with Consanguinity

Objective: Purpose of this study is to determine the frequency keratoconus with consanguinity. Study Design: Comparative/cross-sectional Place and Duration: This comparative/cross-sectional was conducted at Shahida Islam Medical Dental College Lodhran Jinnah International Hospital, Abbottabad in period from May, 2022 October, 2022. Methods: Total 53 patients were presented study. Included aged between 8-32 years. Participants completed a self-administered survey that inquired about demographic information, KC findings, clinical symptoms, parental marital status. All data analyzed using SPSS 20.0. Results: There 31 (58.5%) females 22 (41.5%) males all cases. Mean age 19.25±12.92 35 (66.03%) cases had rural residency 18 (33.97%) urban residency. 25 (47.2%) poor socio-economic Of surveyed, 29 (54.7%) first-cousin weddings their parents, 16 (30.2%) second-cousin marriages, 5 (9.4%) third-cousin 3 (5.7%) marriages beyond immediate family. Significant associations consanguinity found p <0.05 level. Patients first-degree consanguineous parents shown be more likely have advanced disease. Conclusion: Results provide credence idea there still significant direct correlation According poses much greater risk development than other types intermarriage.
